Beating Cancer With Nutrition
Nutritional Therapy For Cancer – Beating Cancer With Nutrition
Have you heard the saying, “you are what you eat”? A lot of truth is in that statement, especially when fighting cancer. Nutrition therapy for cancer is all about choosing cancer-fighting foods and avoiding foods that create cancer-friendly conditions.
Patients in our comprehensive cancer care program meet with our certified cancer nutritionist in to establish a cancer diet that is rich in cancer-fighting vitamins, minerals, and nutrients, and low in compounds that increase cancer risks.
We address the key areas of your diet, including:
- Vitamins and minerals
- Carbohydrates, fats, and proteins
- Water intake
- Foods that prevent cancer
- Foods to fight cancer during treatment
Choose Foods That Prevent Cancer
At Gentle Wellness Center, the centerpiece of our nutrition therapy for cancer program is nutritional counseling that helps patients choose a diet rich in cancer-preventing foods. While no cancer prevention diet is 100 percent effective, there are steps you can take to incorporate cancer-fighting foods into your diet.
Working with our nutritional counselors, you learn about:
- Common, easy-to-find cancer-preventing foods
- Foods that can increase your cancer risk
- Recipes to incorporate cancer-fighting foods into every meal
In addition to foods that help prevent cancer, foods that fight cancer are available, too. Foods like kale, broccoli, and cauliflower are natural cancer fighters. Your Gentle Wellness Center nutritional specialist will teach you about these powerful cancer-fighting foods and give you the information you need to make better nutritional choices during your treatment.
Replenish Your Body with Vitamins
As part of our beating cancer with nutrition program at Gentle Wellness Center, we help you develop a plan for getting the vitamins you need to fight your cancer and maintain optimal health during treatment. Distinguishing between vitamins that are critical to staying healthy and using vitamins for treating cancer is important.
Vitamin B17 and Vitamin C are among the more well-known vitamins used for treating cancer. Our medical staff helps educate you about the appropriate use of these treatments.
Since it can be difficult to get the therapeutic levels of vitamins and minerals you need to fight cancer through your diet alone, additional treatments are commonly used during nutrition therapy for cancer.
Common Nutritional Treatments Include:
IV vitamin therapy for overall health: This therapy provides the essential vitamins, minerals, and amino acids your immune system needs to remain strong during cancer treatment. Oral intake of vitamins or food delivers only about 10% – 25% of the available nutrients to the cells, while IV, or infusion therapy, delivers 100% of the infused therapy’s nutrients directly to the cells. Learn More About IV Vitamin Therapy.
IV Vitamin C therapy to fight cancer: This therapy will elevate vitamin C levels to 70 to 100 times higher than oral vitamin C. This is very effective in killing cancer cells. Intravenous treatments help kick naturally-occurring hydrogen peroxide into high gear, where it acts as an oxidant, destroying both cancer and other foreign invaders such as bacteria and viruses. Recent scientific studies show the effectiveness of beating cancer with nutrition:
West Virginia Medical School Study – Oncologists studied 65 bladder cancer patients. Group one (control group) received a multivitamin plus placebo pills. Group two received the multivitamin plus 40,000 IU of vitamin A, 100 mg of vitamin B6, 2000 mg of vitamin C, 400 IU of vitamin E and 90 mg of zinc. After 10 months, tumors recurred in 80 percent of the patients in the control group but only in 40 percent in the megavitamin group. Essentially, high-dose nutrients cut tumor recurrence in half.
Hoffer Clinic in Victoria, British Columbia Study – This clinical trial studied 129 cancer patients receiving conventional oncologic care. 98 of the patients followed a diet of unprocessed food low in fat, dairy and sugar while receiving therapeutic doses of vitamins and minerals. The control group (31 patients) who did not receive nutritional support, lived an average of less than six months. The cancer patients who did receive nutritional support lived an average of more than six years. Nutrition support was found to increase average life span 12 to 21 times in 80% of patients.
International Journal of Biosocial and Medical Research Study – This1988 study also found therapeutic nutrition helps cancer patients. Of the 200 cancer patients studied who experienced so-called “spontaneous regression,” 87 percent had made a major change in diet (eating more vegetables and less meat) and 65 percent had used nutritional supplements.
Journal of the American College of Nutrition Study – This study of 1500 pancreatic cancer patients tracked their dietary changes and life expectancy. In the group that made no dietary changes only 10% were still alive a year later. In the group that committed to a diet consisting mostly of brown rice and vegetables 52% were still alive after one year.
These studies support what we know here at Gentle Wellness Center – Nutrition Therapy For Cancer works.
