Treating Cancer Through High Dose Intravenous Vitamin C

First suggested as a tool for cancer treatment in the 1950s, Vitamin C is now found to kill cancer cells when administered in high doses through intravenous (IV) infusions.

Vitamin C interacts with iron and other metals found in the blood and creates hydrogen peroxide. Hydrogen peroxide in high concentrations damages the mitochondria and DNA of cancer cells, shutting their energy supply and killing them.

The best part about Vitamin C infusions? It does not harm healthy cells and is selectively toxic to cancer cells no matter how high the concentration, unlike traditional chemotherapy drugs.

Vitamin C acts as a pro-oxidant inside the cells under high concentration, which lead to the formation of some hydrogen peroxide. This hydrogen peroxide is rapidly disposed of in a normal cell through catalase. Due to the deficiency or lack of catalase in the cancer cells, the cancer cell is killed by the peroxide.

Research into the treatment of cancer cells through Vitamin C showed that it was an effective anti-tumor therapy, given that high enough concentration of Vitamin C could be achieved inside the tumor(s).

The research also found that oral Vitamin C supplementation was unlikely to produce high enough concentrations to have an effect on the tumor(s) and intravenous administration was required to achieve high concentrations.

Studies have shown that when Vitamin C is rapidly intravenously infused as sodium ascorbate along with a combination of alpha-lipoic acid, Vitamin C levels that were toxic to cancer cells were reached. Another finding from the study was that phenyl-ascorbate, a fat-soluble analogue of Vitamin C was able to effectively kill cancer cells, even at a dose roughly three times lower than one with unaltered Vitamin C.

High Dose Intravenous Vitamin C infusion has proved to be effective in treatment of cancer cells with a scientific study conducted by two-time Nobel Prize winner Linus Pauling and Dr. Ewen Cameron proving that 10 grams of Vitamin C given by I.V. could extend the life of advanced cancer patient six-fold. Cameron and Pauling also concluded that the survival rate of terminal cancer patient increased fourfold when treated with intravenous infusions followed by oral supplementation.
